BOB RICHARDSON Walker Galleries are pleased to announce their forthcoming exhibition of paintings by Bob Richardson & Gillian Roberts. The exhibition will run from the 18th – 25th May at their Contemporary Gallery, 13 Montpellier Parade, Harrogate. Bob Richardson is a master of the difficult medium of pastel. This exhibition shows the breadth of his vision; he is equally at home portraying the bright light of the Mediterranean sun and the pewter skies of his native North West. His flower pieces are subtle essays in colour and tone. Bob Richardson was born in 1938 in Salford, Lancashire. After five years at art school, he went on to work in the world of advertising, but at the same time enjoyed considerable success at exhibitions as an amateur painter. Since his decision to become a professional painter in 1975, his reputation has grown, and he has gained great respect in the art world. Bob is a voting member of the Pastel Society and a regular exhibitor at the invitation shows of the Confederation of British Artists and the Mall galleries in London. It was there in 1991 that he was awarded their “Grand Prix”, and other awards have followed. His paintings are now in many significant corporate collections including Granada Television, BMW Cars Ltd, Walkers Crisps, Boddingtons Brewery, Manchester Stock Exchange and Salford Art Gallery. Paintings in private collections of note are similarly numerous; the late Baroness Thatcher owned one of his works and the Rolling Stone Bill Wyman has one in his collection. GILLIAN ROBERTS Gillian Roberts has an acute awareness of the way that light falls upon objects. She is equally adept at capturing the way that light ignites reflections on a violinist’s instrument in a cathedral recital, or the way that light permeates a primrose petal in a spring spray of wildflowers. Group exhibitions include Walker Galleries 1996 to date, Greenhouse Gallery 2005, Great Yorkshire Artists, 2005, 2006 and Leeds Fine Art Club, 2006. Solo shows include Walker Galleries in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Gillian has also exhibited with the New English Art Club in 2006 and 2007 and with the Royal Society of British Artists in 2007, 2008 and 2010 and with the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2011. She has been Artist in Residence at the Rydale Music Festival and The Northern Aldborough Music Festival. Commissions include the Legal Procession in York for the High Sheriff Arthur Church, Chief Executive of PLM, Redfearn and numerous portraits in pastel.
