Jacqueline Watt is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art who exhibits both nationally and internationally. Working out of her studio in Edinburgh, Watts work has been informed by landscape and its elemental forces and is strong, expressive and colourful as a direct result. Her innovative use of paint and colour is firmly grounded in, and influenced by her rigorous, academic Scottish art education. Watt has had an extensive and successful teaching career. This has included, visiting lecturer for the Sir John Soanes Summer School in London, senior lecturer at Leith school of Art, Edinburgh and was Scottish Organiser for the Open College of Art. In 2011 Watt was awarded the prestigious Charles Rennie Mackintosh Residency in Collioure, South of France, which gave her the opportunity to explore and develop new directions and subject matter in her work. Her completed body of work has taken 18 months to develop and consists of an extensive range of vibrant and expressive paintings, reflecting Watts highly original response to the colour, atmosphere and moods of the region incorporating motifs from the architecture, harbours and landscape. In May 2014 Watt will be exhibiting in tandem with the Hayward gallerys travelling exhibition of Matisses Drawing with Scissors at the Lime Tree Gallery in Fort William, Scotland.
