MARGARET UTTLEY The ancient British Peat Moorlands are environments of imperative importance to the well being of sensitive ecosystems and human existence. By the hand of the Human species these unique spaces are now at risk, mainly due to climate change and farming practices. In the last four years Margarets work has become more involved with communicating these issues. She has recently been awarded Arts Council Funding to help with her forthcoming exhibition Mor. The mixed media pieces to be shown at Walker Galleries, Harrogate have been worked in conjunction with this collection. Working with the mixed media enables her to freely experiment and further broaden the mark making process, offering a range of expressive marks with natural fluidity; a telling history of marks grow together, creating a seductive tonal range and textured surface. Their physical execution generates gesture, atmosphere and drama, drawn not only from a familiar, observed and visually sensual experience to a particular landscape, but also truly affected by her own emotive state. Time spent walking in the landscape feeds both her work and mind. 1965 Born: Todmorden, West Yorkshire EDUCATION 1982-84 Art Foundation Course - Percival Whitley College, Halifax 1984-87 Fine Art Degree, Bristol University AWARDS 2015 Grants For Arts, Arts Council England 2015 Mor exhibition at Dean Clough & Gallery Oldham FUTURE EXHIBITIONS 2015 Solo Show, Mor, Crossley Gallery, Dean Clough, Halifax, West Yorkshire Walker Galleries Contemporary Art, Harrogate.
