Robert Wells studied at Batley College of art and worked for several years as an architectural designer and illustrator. He moved to London in 1988 to study for a Masters degree in Illustration and Rendering of Architectural Spaces. Robert has an amazing facility for summoning up the shifting horizons of city life. His initial experience as an architectural designer and illustrator has given him a firm grasp of form and volume, but he adds layers of visual excitement to his paintings as light dances off different facets and surfaces to make his whole canvas vibrate and resonate. Robert Wells is a member of the Royal Federation of British Artists and a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy since 2002. He has received numerous awards and prizes including President Choice RBA, 2006, Daler Rowney Prize, 2007, The Howard De Walden Painting Prize, 2012, Davison Award For Oil Painting, 2014 and the Frinton Award, 2016. He is represented in several public collections including the Pannett Gallery, Whitby and the Towner Gallery, Eastbourne. Publications include The Artist, Masterclass, January 2014, International Artist An Architectural Perspective, February, 2014 and International Artist The Power of the Sketchbook, November 2016.
