DAVID ALLEN

Born in 1945, David started his working life as a draughtsman and Chartered Civil Engineer but gave this up to become a full time artist in 1990. He is a member of the Fylingdales Group of Artists of which Dame Ethel Walker, Owen Bowen and Ulric Walmsey were founder members. David won a highly commended award at the Laing Art Competition in 1993 and in 1997, where his painting was purchased by Sir Martin Laing. He was a finalist for three consecutive years in the Pastel Artist International Magazine Awards for Worldwide Pastel Excellence. In 2004 his work and technique were featured in an article in Artist magazine.

David is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists where he won the Classic Boat prize at the annual exhibition in 2005 and the Conway Maritime Sail Award in 2006. In 2013, he was the winner of the Canson Paper Mill Prize at the RSMA annual exhibition He exhibits widely, contributes articles to art magazines and is a highly commended tutor on painting courses nationwide.
